The key to getting backlinks...
...And why journalists might not know why you're asking for one
I feel a bit of a fraud claiming I can give anyone advice about getting backlinks into articles, as I have pretty much zero control over whether anything I write gets a link inserted in it - but I’ve realised that’s the point.
Until very recently, I didn’t even really know what a backlink was - and I certainly didn’t understand why they were so important from a PR perspective. (If you also have no idea, there’s a decent explainer here).
So, if you’re trying to get a link for your (or your client’s) business in the national press, your chances of success are likely to be higher once you appreciate there are a whole load of journalists out there who don’t understand how links work - and that you’re going to need to do more than just ask them for a link if you want to get one.
